Planning your trip
Choosing an eSIM for two weeks in Canada
A practical guide to covering the whole visit, from phone compatibility and local calls to data, hotspot, and arrival setup.
The essentials
What to check for a two-week trip
- Enough days
A 30-day package can cover a two-week visit.
- Useful features
Check local calls, phone support, and any laptop needs.
- Right country
US calling does not mean roaming service in the USA.
In this guide
For two weeks in Canada, choose an eSIM whose validity covers the whole trip and whose features match how you will use your phone. You do not need a package labelled “14 days”: a 30-day plan can work for a fortnight. Compare the total price, local calling, hotspot, coverage, and phone compatibility before buying.
What matters on a two-week trip
Your phone may need to handle maps, accommodation check-ins, restaurant calls, messages, and photo uploads. Start with those jobs. A large data number is only useful if the plan also covers the dates, places, and features you need.
| Your trip needs | What to look for | What to check on CanadianSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Maps and travel apps | Data for the entire visit | The current 30-day package includes 95 GB |
| Calls to hotels or tour operators | A Canadian number and local calling | Included in the current prepaid packages |
| Calls to the USA from Canada | An explicit US calling allowance | Included in the current 30-day plan |
| A laptop connection | Hotspot or tethering permission | Not supported on the current prepaid plans |
| A side trip into the USA | Service that covers use in the USA | Not included; CanadianSIM’s prepaid packages are Canada-only |
Do you need a 14-day eSIM?
No. The service period needs to include your arrival and departure; it does not have to end on the day you fly home. Compare the full amount you will pay for the trip, not just a daily rate calculated over days you will not use.
CanadianSIM currently offers 95 GB for 30 days at CA$40. For a 14-day holiday, the total package price is still CA$40; it is not reduced because you use fewer days. Check the final checkout amount and current terms before paying.
A separate 90-day package costs CA$75 and includes 75 GB for the whole period. Its longer validity does not automatically make it the better choice for a two-week visit. Use the 30-day versus 90-day comparison if your travel dates are longer or uncertain.
Decide whether you want a local number
A data-only eSIM connects internet apps without necessarily giving you a telephone number. An eSIM with a Canadian number adds a local line for ordinary calls and texts, subject to its allowances.
If you mainly use internet messaging, data may be enough. A Canadian number can be useful when a restaurant, accommodation host, or tour operator wants to call you directly. Check the difference before assuming that every travel eSIM includes both.
Receiving a verification code depends on the service sending it and the line’s support. A local number is not a guarantee that every bank or online account will accept it. Keep access to your existing account-recovery methods.
Check your phone before buying
Your phone must support eSIM, be unlocked for another carrier, and work with the intended service. Check the exact model and regional version, particularly if the handset was bought abroad or second-hand.
On iPhone, Apple’s unlock check is under Settings → General → About. “No SIM restrictions” beside Carrier Lock means it is unlocked. Use Apple’s current instructions if it is not clear. For other devices, use the manufacturer’s model information and the compatibility guidance on the plan page.
For a fuller check, read CanadianSIM’s phone compatibility guide. Installing a new eSIM does not unlock a locked phone.
Plan your data around your habits
Check recent mobile-data use on your own phone and the period it covers. Expect the pattern to change if you will spend more time navigating, making video calls, or uploading photos away from Wi-Fi.
Download maps, tickets, and entertainment before leaving. Save accommodation addresses and booking references offline too. For a drive between cities, review the road-trip coverage checklist rather than assuming that a large data allowance guarantees signal everywhere.
If you need a laptop online, choose a service that explicitly supports tethering. CanadianSIM’s current prepaid plans do not. This is a feature decision, not something a larger allowance fixes.
Get ready before departure
- Choose the package after checking your phone, dates, and must-have features.
- Enter your arrival information carefully and monitor the email used for the order.
- Follow the supplied QR-code and installation instructions. Keep the code private.
- After arrival, select the Canadian eSIM for mobile data and check the intended outgoing-call line.
- If keeping your home SIM active, review that carrier’s roaming charges. Turning off data roaming does not control every possible call or message charge.
Questions about a two-week Canada eSIM
Can I use a 30-day plan for only two weeks?
Yes, if the active service dates cover your full visit. You do not have to stay for the whole validity period.
Does US calling mean the eSIM works in the USA?
No. Calling a US number from Canada is different from roaming in the USA. The current prepaid packages do not include US service.
Can I use the same eSIM on two phones?
Do not assume that a QR code can be reused or a profile transferred freely. Ask support about device changes before buying or deleting a profile.
